How do I post a video to my blog on WordPress.com?

If you have already had a blog on WordPress.com, it allows you to host and play videos right from your blog posts. There are 2 ways:

Way 1. Add Video from YouTube


Step 1. Upload Video to YouTube

You can use our Free YouTube Uploader for this purpose. Here is a detailed guide How to upload a video to YouTube.

Step 2. Copy YouTube Link

In internet browser open a YouTube video which you want to upload to your blog (something like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz8OInsZZ1c&feature=related).

Select and copy YouTube link.

Step 3. Go to WordPress.com

Click the Add video button

Go to your blog on WordPress.com and click the "Add video" button.

Step 4. Post YouTube Video to Your Blog

Paste YouTube link to the input field

In the pop-up window select the tab "From URL" and paste YouTube link in square brackets to the input field.

For instance,
[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz8OInsZZ1c&feature=related].

Click "Insert into Post" and then click the "Publish" button on the right.

That's all, YouTube video is on your blog now. It has already had a standart YouTube player, so you can control the movie.

Way 2. Add Video from Computer


Note: the feature is available only to those who have purchased a space upgrade.


Step 1. Convert Video

WordPress.com supports most popular video formats, but if it doesn't recognize your file you can convert it, for instance, to mp4 or avi using Free 3GP Video Converter.

Click the Add video icon from the Upload toolbar

Step 2.

Click the Add video icon from the "Upload" toolbar, which brings up the media upload screen.

click Select files

Step 3.

Click the "Select files" button and choose a video file to upload.

Step 4.

After you've selected a video file, the upload process begins. While it is uploading, a status bar will appear along with a message that says "Crunching..." Depending on your ISP network speed, it may take a while to upload a large video file.

Step 5.

When the video has been successfully transferred to WordPress, you'll receive a message saying "Your video is being processed. It will be ready in several minutes".

This wait is because WordPress is taking a few more steps to further process your video in order to make it accessible from the Web.

Furthermore, WordPress duplicates your video across its many data centers for maximum availability and accessibility.

Step 6.

After processing is complete, click the "Gallery" or "Media Library" tab, locate the video you just uploaded, and click "Show", which displays the details of the video.

After processing has finished you will see the preview area together with the video's shortcode.

Click "Insert into Post" to insert the video shortcode into your post.
